Not really. But I wish they made vintage industrial furniture for relaxing outdoors. So until they do, we will have to settle for fun, whacky, metal and nylon made for outdoor living.

This collection of outdoor furniture by designer Tord Boontje is almost too good to keep outside. He blends artistry with the latest technology and these chairs and ottomans are a perfect example. I first thought Alice in Wonderland when I came across these cool chairs. They are whimsical in design and sturdy in construction. These chairs aren’t vintage or industrial but I would consider using them inside rather than out. Every once in awhile you need a little color and these chairs would certainly wake Alice up!

Vintage Salvaged Wood Door

You might think this is a continuation of the earlier post on egg chairs, but it’s actually about what was behind one of the egg chairs that caught my eye.

Wood doors don’t always have to meet and greet guests into your home. If you’re lucky enough to salvage a vintage wood door, think about using it inside your home. A door like this can look great as wall art or just leaning against a wall in your home. This vintage wood door was salvaged from an old home from the days when stained glass was still affordable and wood carving was not a lost art form. Worn and distressed paint with rusted iron hardware make this vintage door all the better. So next time you think you have to use a door as just a door, think twice. Knock, knock, who’s there?

The Egg Chair

A simple egg. Who would have thought to turn an egg into a chair? Arne Jacobsen, that’s who.

Architect Arne Jacobsen first designed the egg chair in his garage back in 1958. Since then, the egg chair has become an icon of furniture design. Great for kicking back and relaxing, the egg chair gives you that little bit of privacy that’s sometimes needed in a hotel lobby or public space. But more important, it gives you that little bit of privacy that sometimes is needed even at home. I did an earlier post on the egg chair but came across this recent exhibit done by the Fritz Hansen Company. I think you’ll like these photos. If not, I’ll have egg on my face!
