American Flag Wall Painting

I look at this American Flag wall painting and think back on our recent midterm elections for seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. It was Republican versus Democrat, elephant versus donkey, the Grand Old Party versus the Democratic Party, conservative versus liberal, right versus left or red versus blue. It’s a lot to take in if you’re not a political junky. Fox News, CNN or MSNBC. Depending on which channel you select can greatly influence your opinion on either party. But when did it become so contentious and necessary to choose one party or the other. To identify yourself as either red or blue. Why is it that we can’t take the good from both sides and discard the bad. I guess because that would require both parties to work together. Unfortunately, it looks like our elected government officials are no longer capable of reaching across the isle in one big kumbaya moment. Maybe it’s time to remember the speech that first launched President Ronald Reagan into the political arena. After all, both red a blue seem to have liked The Gipper.

Ronald Reagan first expressed his belief in the importance of a smaller government and his ideological motivation in his speech ‘A Time for Choosing.’ Our Founding Fathers knew a government cannot control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing. You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man’s age old dream, the maximum of individual freedom consistent with law and order. Or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. That said, I’m with Ronnie.
