American Flag Wall Painting
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States to remember those who died while serving in the armed forces. It originated as Decoration Day in 1868 as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of Union war veterans with flowers. By the twentieth century, Union and Confederate holiday traditions, which were celebrated on different days, were merged together on the same day as Memorial Day. It is observed every year on the last day of May which typically marks the start of the summer season while labor Day marks the end of summer vacation. Memorial Day is often confused with Veterans Day. Memorial Day remembers the men and women who died while serving our country and Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military service veterans, both alive and deceased. On Memorial Day the American flag is raised to the top of the staff and then slowly lowered to half staff position where it remains until noon. It is then raised to full staff for the remainder of the day. The half staff position remembers service men and women who gave their lives for our country and the full staff position represents those who continue the fight for liberty and justice for all. Be proud to be an American.
