Tammy Wynette sang Stand By Your Man but like this antique car wall painting maybe it should have been called Stand By Your Car. The woman in the song is proud to stand by her man through good times and bad. Equally proud, these men stand by the car they just built. Painted on salvaged metal that’s pieced together with nuts and bolts, this wall painting is almost as big as a car. At eight feet long this painting comes close to the length of a small subcompact car. But now back to Tammy.

Stand By Your Man was originally recorded by Tammy Wynette and released as a single in the United States in 1968. It quickly became the most successful recording of her career and is one of the most recorded songs in the history of country music. The song made number one on CMT’s list of top 100 country music songs for three straight weeks. It then crossed over to the U.S. pop charts peaking at number nineteen. This was rare back in the 60’s. The song elevated Wynette’s singing career to superstar status among female country recording artists. The song also reached number one on the U.K. charts when it was later released in Britain in 1975. It then reached number one status in the Netherlands. In 2010 the Library of Congress added Stand By Your Man to the National Recording Registry which chooses recordings that are aesthetically significant to our cultural history. I don’t think Stand By Your Car sounds that bad. Let’s give it a shot.
