Jetliner Oil Painting

The first built jetliner was the British de Havilland Comet which first flew in 1949 and entered service in 1952. Also developed in 1949 was the Canadian C012 Jetliner which never reached the production line. But the name jetliner became a generic term for all passenger jet aircraft. These jetliners were soon followed by the more common Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8. These aircraft later became closely associated with Pan Am which was short for Pan American World Airways. It was the principal and largest international air carrier in the Unites States from 1927 until it’s collapse in 1991. Pan Am is credited with many innovations that shaped the airline industry including widespread use of jetliners and jumbo jets. Pan Am was responsible for the first order of 20 Boeing 707’s and 25 Douglas DC-8’s in 1955. The combined value of the aircraft order was $269 million. It wasn’t until 1966 that Pan Am placed it’s first order for 26 of the more popular Boeing 747 worth $525 million. So if you like to fly or just like to watch airplanes, hang this jetliner oil painting in your home. And if you like to play with planes, this vintage wood toy will do the trick. Happy flying.
