If leather can look this good please strap me into this leather strap side chair. Leather is used to make a variety of products. We wear leather belts, jackets, shoes and hats. Because leather is so durable it can also be used to bind books, cover walls and upholster furniture. Leather is a strong and flexible material that is created by tanning animal rawhide and skin, usually cattle hide.
Leather Strap Side Chair
It’s common to wear soft leather on our feet and bodies but it’s the tanning process that enables us to do so. Without it, leather would be hard, it would crack and not be very comfortable. So before we sit on a leather strap side chair like this we would want the leather tanned. There are a variety of tanning processes but the most common is chrome tanned leather. It was invented in 1858 and uses chromium sulfate and other chromium salts. It makes the leather more supple and pliable so that it’s soft on our feet and on our bottoms. The leather is first pickled by immersing it in a mixture of chromium which leaves the tanned leather a pale blue color. It’s then soaked in drums containing tanning liquor which penetrates through the full thickness of the skin. It’s monitored, tested and when complete the rawhide is a soft tanned leather. Strips of tanned leather were interwoven to make this mid century side chair stylish and comfortable. No hard wood for your bottom. Just soft pliable leather to sit down and relax. I could sit here for hours.
