Metal Zinc Top Wood Console

Why have a metal zinc top wood console in the house when it will never get wet. Because it looks so good. That’s right, this beautiful wood console will never be left outside in the rain. It wasn’t meant to be sold as outdoor furniture. It’s not plastic rattan or white PVC. But if by some chance this console found itself sitting outside in the natural elements the metal top would never rust. It might sound hard to believe but it’s all in the galvanization process where zinc is infused into the metal to protect it from rusting. So why make this console with a metal zinc top. Again, because it looks so good. Rather than a solid metal top that is consistently gray from end to end, the zinc produces an aged, distressed finish that complements the natural grain of the wood. Perfect together.

Galvanization is the process of applying a protective coat of zinc to steel or iron to prevent it from rusting. The most common method is hot dip galvanization where metal parts are submerged into a bath of molten zinc. Sounds a little scary but it’s only science. The zinc not only provides a protective layer from erosion but it penetrates the metal and infuses the zinc to provide multiple layers of protection. If exposed to the natural elements this console will never rust. Sorry Rustoleum.
