Why is a raven like a writing desk? I don’t know but I do like this reclaimed wood desk. The riddle with no answer was presented by the Mad Hatter in the book Alice in Wonderland. In the chapter ‘A Mad Tea Party’ the Hatter asks Alice this riddle and she ultimately gives up trying to figure out why. The Hatter then admits he has no idea either. The author, Lewis Carroll intended the riddle to be without an answer but he received an onslaught of requests for the riddle to be solved. In fact, puzzle experts and even other notable authors have presented their own answers to the riddle. One of the many proposed solutions was ‘because Edgar Allen Poe wrote on both’ alluding to his poem The Raven. The riddle also gained noteworthy attention in the unforgettable film The Shining. Five year old son Danny hears whispers inside his head which include ‘why is a raven like a writing desk.’
Reclaimed Wood Desk
I also have a riddle. When is a reclaimed wood desk used to write? Sorry, again there is no answer because I don’t think people write anymore. At least using a desk. Long gone are the days of doing homework at your desk. In the age of iPhones, iPads and every other electronic gadget no one writes at a desk anymore. I have heard that some schools have stopped teaching cursive writing. Unless you want to start texting in cursive we will soon be a nation of print copy only. And cursive writing will fall into the vintage category. But if you do find yourself in need of a desk I would choose this reclaimed wood desk. Fully equipped with drawers and shelving, there is plenty of room to pull up a comfortable chair too. Now where’s that pen and paper.
