Reclaimed Wood Pine Desk

It’s the symmetry with this reclaimed wood pine desk that makes this room stand out from the crowd. If this desk were placed against the wall all by itself you might just walk on by without taking a second look. But the right staging makes this room work. A desk flanked by a wood apothecary cabinet on each side with over sized aviator mirrors above make this picture complete. Of course, a few work lights and a comfortable chair help make the space functional too. The symmetry of how the mirrors are hung combined with the placement of furniture makes this entire wall become the focal point of the room.

Symmetry is defined as the quality being made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis. Or in simpler terms, an object has reflectional symmetry if there is a line going through it which divides it into two pieces which are mirror images of each other. In this case, the line would go directly through the middle of this reclaimed wood desk. Symmetry is created on this wall with the placement of like items on each side of the desk. First, the wall is grounded with two wood cabinets flanking the desk in the middle. Then a large square glass mirror hangs over the desk with two round mirrors over each side cabinet. They add symmetry but also the perception of depth on a flat wall. Lastly, accessories are added such as a leather chair and tasks lamps to warm up the space. Each piece alone might not get your attention but grouped together this room gets a grade A plus.
