Round Industrial Iron Mirror

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all. My vote goes to this round industrial iron mirror. One of the most recognizable quotes made back in 1937 by the Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The mirror always gave the right answer until Snow White came along. Then there was a very unhappy Queen. I’m not sure things are that much different today.

We live in a culture today obsessed with mirrors, selfies and taking photos of ourselves. If you check Instagram, there are close to 100 million photos with the hashtag mirror or selfie. So it’s no surprise that this phenomenon has become a research topic for many psychologists and therapists. They believe that this question is prominent on the minds of many women and men today. They support this claim with the significant rise in plastic surgery, skin products and other anti aging creams during good and even hard economic times. In 2010, there were nearly 100,000 documented surgical procedures related to face lifts, liposuction and breast augmentation for those over 65. Not to mention the billion dollar cosmetic industry and those getting procedures at a much younger age. Obviously we all want to live longer but we don’t want to look like we’re living longer. The reality is that nearly one in five Americans are over the age of 65 and by the year 2020, older people will outnumber young people for the first in history. So why is it that we live in a culture with negative views towards aging. Our fear of aging is counter to the reality. The soon to be majority should embrace age, the wisdom that comes with it, and rejoice. Now don’t photo bomb my selfie in this round industrial iron mirror.
