Round Linen Canopy Pendants

Linen napkins, linen drapes, linen pants and now round linen canopy pendant lights. That’s right, linen has a lot of uses and now even to make cool lighting. I like these round pendants because they reflect all of the qualities I like about linen. It’s a natural material that’s clean, airy and has a lot of texture. Stretched on a simple metal frame, this linen canopy is suspended by a rope that is made with another natural material, jute.

Linen is a textile that’s made from the fibers of the flax plant. It’s actually very difficult to manufacture but the final product is very absorbent and garments made from linen are valued for their ability to keep you cool and dry in hot weather. We may take linen for granted and probably because it’s been around for so long. It has a very long history. Linen is believed to be the oldest textile in the world. It’s history dates back thousands of years to at least 8000 BC with fragments of straw, seeds and yarn. Dyed fibers of flax have even been found in prehistoric caves in Georgia which would date it’s use back even further. Linen has always been a valued commodity. So much that it was even used as currency back in ancient Egypt. Egyptian mummies were wrapped in linen as a symbol of light, purity and a display of wealth. I don’t want to wrap any mummies in linen. I’m fine with just hanging it from the ceiling with these very cool round linen canopy pendants. Got linen?
