A horse is a horse of course of course. And no one can talk to a horse of course. Unless you’re talking about this vintage gymnastics pommel horse. We can talk about Mr. Ed one of my favorite TV shows from the 1960’s, but I would rather talk about these cool vintage pommel horses. I think we can all figure out how this gymnastics equipment got it’s name. It’s all in the mount and dismount.
Vintage Gymnastics Pommel Horse
The pommel horse was actually developed centuries ago. It was used by military soldiers as an artificial horse to practice mounting and dismounting. In fact, Alexander the Great used two pommel horses. But typically a pommel horse is used by gymnasts and is considered one of the more difficult men’s events. The pommel horse is used to perform single and double leg exercises. The single leg exercise is generally in the form of scissors but double leg is usually the main staple of the routine. The gymnast swings both legs in a circular motion and uses the entire horse. The routine ends when the gymnast performs a dismount either by swinging his body over the horse or going through a handstand to land on the mat. I think we can all agree that this sport requires a lot of practice. So I would rather sit on a pommel horse and watch my favorite show. No one can talk to a horse of course. Unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed
