Ball bearings or vintage industrial pendants. They could probably be used as both. But if you need pendant lighting in either a vintage or contemporary space these are the pendants for you. They work great in both design styles.
Vintage Industrial Pendants
Inspired by mechanical ball bearings, I am torn between classifying these pendants as as Industrial Revolution or Mid Century Modern. A ball bearing is a rolling element that uses balls to maintain the separation between two bearing races. The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce friction and support radial and axial loads. It does this by using at least two races to hold the balls and transmit the load through the balls. One race is usually stationary while the other is attached to a rotating assembly like a hub or shaft. As one race rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. And because the balls are rolling they endure much less friction than if the two flat surfaces were sliding against each other. Although popular during the Industrial Revolution, the use of ball bearings dates as far back as the 1700’s. But this is the twenty first century and we decided to string some ball bearing like objects together to create unique vintage industrial pendants. And depending on your design aesthetic, these pendants come in four different finishes. Take your pick from copper, nickel, silver or an antique brass finish. They all look good. Hang these pendants over the bar counter, the dining room table or even in the bathroom and they will complete your vintage or contemporary design. Now let’s get rolling. We have some ball bearings to hang.
