A horse is a horse of course of course unless you’re talking about these vintage leather pommel horses. And no one can talk to a horse of course. We can talk about Mr. Ed one of my favorite TV shows from the 1960’s, but I would rather talk about these cool vintage pommel horses. I think we can all figure out how this gymnastics equipment got it’s name. It’s all in the mount and dismount.
Vintage Leather Pommel Horses
The pommel horse was actually developed centuries ago. It was used by military soldiers as an artificial horse to practice their mounting and dismounting. In fact, Alexander the Great used two pommel horses to practice his riding. But typically a pommel horse is used by gymnasts and is considered one of the most difficult men’s events in professional gymnastics. The pommel horse is used to perform single and double leg exercises. The single leg exercise is generally in the form of scissors but double leg is usually the main staple of the routine. The gymnast swings both legs in a circular motion using the entire horse. The routine ends when the gymnast performs a dismount either by swinging his body over the pommel horse or going through a handstand to land on the soft mat below. I think we can all agree that this sport requires a lot of practice. So I would rather sit on a pommel horse and watch my favorite show. No one can talk to a horse of course. Unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed
