I don’t care if this vintage toy pedal car was made for kids. I’m ready to pedal my way to work. Often considered the Rolls Royce of pedal cars, this miniature scale Ferrari is sought after by serious collectors. The original Ferrari race car was built in the 1950’s and was quickly replicated in toy scale by an Italian manufacturer. Not many were made and to find one in good condition is rare. Spoke wheels, leather seat and side exhaust pipes were all kept true to the real Ferrari. I won’t tell you what this toy car goes for but once in awhile you’ll find one on the auction block at Sotheby’s. Let’s just say it’s not pocket change.
Vintage Toy Pedal Car
The real Ferrari is an Italian sports car manufacturer based in Maranello. It was founded by Enzo Ferrari back in 1939 and the company built it’s first car in 1940. Enzo Ferrari began his career making race cars and started Ferrari labeled road cars only to fund his passion for building race cars under a separate company named Scuderia Ferrari. And the rest is history. Ferrari is now recognized as the world’s most powerful sports car brand. In May of 2012, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO became the most expensive car in history. it sold in a private transaction for $38.1 million to American communications magnate Craig McCaw. So it’s no wonder that this vintage toy pedal car carries the same cache among toy collectors. If you can’t have the real thing I would certainly settle for this vintage toy car. Maybe I can’t fit in it but I can look at it and dream of the open highway. Drivers start your engines.
