Wood Dining Table

A few facts about wood before you buy your next wood dining table. We all know that wood comes from trees but did you know that:

Trees grow from the top and not the bottom. If you don’t believe me just watch a tree grow for the next 100 years and you’ll see that the branches at the bottom move up only a few inches. Trees get 90 percent of their nutrition from the atmosphere and only 10 percent from the soil. And did you know that trees never die of old age. Instead, they are killed by insects, disease and people. I bet you didn’t know that about trees.

We use trees as a source of wood to make all kinds of things like homes, furniture and of course dining tables. But did you know that we benefit from trees in other ways that are not so obvious. For example, just one wood tree can absorb 48 pounds of carbon dioxide a year and a ton of CO2 after 40 years. Properly placed trees can cut your air conditioning costs by as much as 30 percent. In the USA alone, shade and wind proofing from trees reduces heating and cooling costs by $2.1 billion a year. And well maintained trees can increase the property value of your home by 27 percent.

We see the by product of trees in the form of wood every day. We sit on wood chairs, we eat on wood dining tables and we even burn wood in our fireplaces. But we often take trees left in their natural state for granted. Trees existed before man and they will probably be here long after we are gone.

Trees, a natural wonder.
